The grandmother of Cook County Commissioner Richard R. Boykin, Janie B. Jenkins Knight, died on October 16, 2016 in Brandon, MS. She was 99 years old.

Janie B. Jenkins Knight, who was affectionately called “Mother Knight,” was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who was also a founding member of Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness USA in Pearl, MS. She was strong in her faith in the LORD Jesus Christ. Mother Knight served faithfully in the choir, as a deaconess and as a faithful Sunday School member until she became physically incapacitated.

Often times she told her family, “you know where you’ve been but you don’t know where you’re going; treat everybody right, no matter how they treat you.”

Mrs. Knight was married to Ben Knight, Sr., an Army Veteran, who preceded her in death. To their union 12 children were born. She leaves 43 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews many other relatives and friends.
