Senator Eddie Melton named to Senate Appropriations Committee

State Senator Eddie Melton (D-Gary) was named to serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee for the 2019-2020 legislative sessions. The Appropriations Committee is an instrumental Senate committee assignment, and its members craft the state’s biennium budget. Sen. Melton is the only member representing Lake County that will serve on the committee.

“I am honored for the opportunity to serve on this committee in the upcoming sessions and look forward to working with my fellow colleagues who have been assigned to Appropriations,” Sen. Melton said. “This is a great chance for me to further represent my constituents and ensure that District 3 is spoken for when it comes to how our state’s funds are allocated.”

In addition to the Appropriations Committee, Sen. Melton will once again preside as the Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Education and Career Development Committee. He will also serve on the following standing Senate committees over the next two legislative sessions: Health and Provider Services, Homeland Security and Transportation, and Veteran Affairs and the Military.

Sen. Melton represents Indiana Senate District 3 which encompasses portions of Lake County. District 3 communities include Gary, Lake Station, New Chicago, Hobart, Ainsworth, Merrillville and Crown Point.
