SABA SABA Picnic planned July 13

The Simmons Family Council (SFC) and the Institute of Youth Community Programming (IYCP) invites residences of Northwest Indiana and Chicago, Illinois to participate in their annual Saba Saba picnic and celebration on Saturday, July 13, 2019. Saba member Paul D. Simmons will host the event at his home, 3465 Maryland St. in Gary, Ind. in the rear from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All ages are welcome. There is no admission. The two organizations ask that you bring your favorite dish to share with ten other people. Suggestions include meat, vegetable, pasta dish, salad, fruit, dessert, water, nonalcoholic beverage, bread, rolls, etc. Competitive games will be played, discussions and information on Saba Saba, as well as positive discussions on making the City and Community better. Summer Musical at St. Paul

On Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 4:00 p.m., the St. Paul Mass Choir invites you to attend their annual Summer Musical “Moving Forward by Faith.” Special guests have been invited, including choirs from New Tabernacle Baptist Church and Pilgrim Baptist Church, Marie Houston, and Donna Brown, worship leader. The St. Paul church family invites the public to the free event. The church is located at 2300 Grant Street, Gary, Indiana. Free Health Fair – August 3

The Nurses Ministry of Christ Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) partnered with Oak Street Health to sponsor a Free Health Fair on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at 4201 Washington Street, Gary, Ind. There will be free immunizations, blood sugar testing, blood pressure testing, counseling, door prizes, vendors and food will be provided. It is free to the community according to Bishop Dr. Dale L. Cudjoe, pastor and Charline Dumas-Wright, Nurses Ministry Chair.

42nd Annual Ancestors’ Memorial Service

The Simmons Family Council & (IYCP) Institute of Youth Community Programming will host a second event observing the 42nd Annual Ancestors’ Memorial Service held with Reverend Howard L. Carter, pastor, and St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 2300 Grant Street in Gary. The event will be free and open to the public on Saturday, August 17, 2019, 3:00 p.m. In the Sanctuary the public is invited to join in the Candle Lighting Ceremony. Guests may honor three of loved ones with a candle donation of $3.00. Deadline to give names is August 12, 2019. Contact, Shirley Baldwin, (219) 949-4232 with names and donation. The public is invited to sing a song, play an Instrument, recite a poem, reading or creative dance.
