Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. posted the $500 bond today (Monday, Dec. 2, 2019) for 29-year-old Bernard Kersh, who over the weekend was body slammed by a Chicago officer at 79th and Cottage Grove. Rev. Jackson was accompanied by Kersh’s mother, Keisha Johnson.
“This young man’s skull could have been cracked,” said Rev. Jackson. “They said he licked the face of the officer and spit in his face. It is clear he is mentally ill. He needs help not to be body slammed.” Rev. Jackson called the police officer’s use of an “emergency takedown” unacceptable.
