Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – March And Legacy Awards celebration for 2018

The Ministerial Alliance of Hammond & Vicinity and the City of Hammond staff along with various states in our country celebrate on the third Monday of January the federal holiday to honor the charismatic Baptist minister and Civil Rights leader who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The 2018 winners of the Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Awards are as follows:

Drum Major Legacy Award This award recognizes an individual or organization for making a significant contribution toward realizing Dr. King’s dream of equality, social justice, and peace. In one of his more famous sermons, Dr. King said, “…say that I was a drum major for justice…for peace…for righteousness.”

Drum Major Legacy Award – To be presented to Mr. Jeffrey Morrow

Rosa Parks Legacy Award –This award is given to an individual for the spirit of excellence with her caring heart, lifelong service to her community and the strong legacy that she as an individual has planted in the lives of so many.

Rosa Parks Legacy Award will be presented to : Rev. Dr. Shirley Gillespie.

Distinguished Service Award –This award recognizes an individual for making meaningful contributions to the City of Hammond through leadership, service and education. A person who embraces and practices the principles of unity, collective work, responsibility, purpose, and self determination.

Distinguished Service Awards – To be presented to Grandma Lois TLC Daycare and Mr. Lester Stokes. The two scheduled speakers are United States Senator Joe Donnelly and Congressman Peter Visclosky, U. S. House of Representatives.

Leaders supporting the March and Legacy Awards celebration for 2018 are Thomas M. McDermott, Jr., Mayor, City of Hammond and Bishop Brandon A. Jacobs, Sr., President, The Ministerial Alliance of Hammond and Vicinity.
