Rep. Earl L. Harris to present the Sagamore of the Wabash Award to Attorney Clorius L. Lay

On Sunday, September 17, 2017, Indiana State Representative Earl L. Harris Jr. (House, 2nd District) will present the Sagamore of the Wabash Award to Attorney Clorius L. Lay, which Erick L. Holcomb, Governor of Indiana conferred the Sagamore of the Wabash Award on Attorney Clorius L. Lay on August 3, 2017.

The pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Rev. Dwight A. Gardner, invites the public to the presentation, which will take place at the church, 1831 Virginia St., Gary, Indiana at 10:30 a.m.

The Sagamore of the Wabash Award is the highest honor, which the Governor of Indiana bestows. It is a personal tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governor. With this honor, Lay joins other distinguished recipients that include astronauts, presidents, judges’ ambassadors, artists, musicians, politicians and ordinary citizens who have contributed greatly to the state of Indiana’s Hoosier heritage.

The term “sagamore” was used by the American Indiana Tribes of the Northwestern United States to describe a lesser chief or a great man among the tribe to whom the true chief would look for wisdom and advice it should be noted that the Sagamores have been conferreed upon both men and women.
