Renowned Fisk Jubilee Singer and Educator Dr. Jean Harvey Lightfoot dies

The Danielle Ashley Group is saddened by the death of distinguished educator and artist, Dr. Jean Harvey Lightfoot, who passed away of heart failure on November 15, 2017 at 81 years of age.

After completing her Ph.D. at Northwestern University, she went on to hold prestigious careers at multiple institutions of education. Dr. Harvey Lightfoot passionately believed that being educated positioned everyone to leave a positive impact on the world; this was exemplified throughout her impressive academic and professional career.

In the 1950s, Dr. Harvey Lightfoot was a featured soloist for the Fisk Jubilee Singers. She dazzled audiences around the United States and Europe during her tenure with the group. The Fisk Jubilee Singers were founded in 1871 to tour and obtain money for college. Jean was one of the earliest members of the Fisk Jubilee Singers.

She leaves behind an impressive legacy of academic excellence, artistic beauty and positive change. She will be missed by many people, including her only child Jaronda Patrice Lightfoot Hall, her son-in-law Lee Michael Hall, her two granddaughters Jorie Leigh Hall and Jaya Mychal Hall and her nephew Phillip Ronald Harvey and his wife Alia Jones.
