“HONORING GRADUATES – CHALLENGE TO YOUNG AMERICA”
Location: Rainbow PUSH Auditorium – 930 E. 50th Street, Chicago IL 60615
Session Description: Even amidst the pandemic, 2021 saw the highest-ever graduation rate for Chicago Public Schools at 83.8 percent. A decade earlier, the graduation rate for the same school district sat at 56.9 percent. The dramatic increase has been driven by a combination of investments in intervention programs and additional resources for students across the spectrum and puts the district on track to achieve its goal of a 90 percent graduation rate by 2024.
The Rainbow PUSH Coalition and PUSH for Excellence will honor the graduating class of 2022 with a celebration and discussion about the best ways to advance this progress – which has been propelled by gains from Black students – into the foreseeable future.

Location: South Shore Cultural Center – 7059 S South Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60649
Room: Solarium
Session Coordinators: Bishop Tavis Grant, Rev. Dr. Janette Wilson, and Rev. Cameron Barnes
Session Description: At the heart of the nation’s affordability crisis is the fact that the cost to build and operate housing simply exceeds what low-income renters can afford. Nationally, the average monthly operating cost for a rental unit in 2018 was $439, excluding mortgage and other debt-related expenses.
Thanks to the lack of funding, American public housing faces an $80 billion maintenance backlog. America is in the grips of a severe housing shortage. Tens of millions of people are newly in the market for a home or apartment thanks to the pandemic rescue packages and the strong labor market.
Housing is the key to reducing intergenerational poverty and increasing economic mobility. Research shows that increasing access to affordable housing is the most cost-effective strategy for reducing childhood poverty and increasing economic mobility in the United States. We seek to address these and other issues, including the DEI vacuum that exists in the housing industry for jobs and contracts.
