Purdue Northwest co-hosting NW Indiana STAND DOWN event Aug 18 for enlisted military personnel, veterans & families

As part of a national initiative to help local military personnel, veterans and their families gain valuable services, Purdue University Northwest is co-sponsoring the sixth annual Northwest Indiana STAND DOWN event Friday, Aug. 18.

Northwest Indiana STAND DOWN is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Indiana National Guard Limited Army Aviation Support Facility, 6289 Industrial Highway, Gary.

During STAND DOWN, enlisted personnel, veterans and family members will have an opportunity to connect with such services as legal aid, education, counseling, health screenings and medical services, as well as attain information about employment, substance abuse treatment, the Veterans Administration and Social Security benefits.

There also will be food and children’s activities. To gain admission, all military attendees must present a photo ID, their DD214 or other military identification.

Joining Purdue Northwest as sponsors are First Midwest Bank, the Indiana Veterans Action Council, and the Veterans Administration.
