By Dr. P. Gould, blackdoctor.org

Go ahead and say it: “There are no chemicals. That is just juices and berries.” That’s the familiar line from the iconic film “Coming To America” starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. In the scene Eddie’s character Prince Akeem claimed that he only put juices and berries to keep his hair healthy. As it turns out there are some juices and berries that are great for your hair. See below:

  1. Carrot Juice

Turns out carrots are not just for Bugs Bunny, it is an excellent nutritional health drink, which is rich in beta-carotene that gives your hair a beautiful shine and colour, restoring and strengthening the structure of hair follicles. It is also a good source of vitamin C, which helps in increasing blood flow to the scalp thereby aiding in hair growth. All you need to do is start your day with a glass of carrot juice – it’s healthy and will appeal to your taste buds as well.

  1. Onion Juice

This is a proven fact that onion juice is known to give positive results in treating hair problems, as it works as a stimulant in the growth of hair by increasing the blood circulation in the scalp. Apart from this, onion juice is also known for its antiseptic properties that keep the scalp clean. You can apply onion juice on your scalp, directly. Though very strong and pungent in odour, onions can also be used alongside rosewater on your scalp, which has to be later washed off after about an hour with a mild shampoo.

  1. Garlic Juice

The idea of using garlic juice for hair loss is almost as old as the existence of the world. Garlic, just like onion, is a natural hair stimulant that provides nourishment to the hair follicles and increases the blood circulation in scalp. Therefore, applying fresh garlic juice topically on your scalp is definitely one of the best natural solutions for effective hair care and hair re-growth, along with a healthy balanced diet, consuming lots of leafy green vegetables and beans, as well as using only high quality hair care product.

  1. Plum Juice

Dark-colored fruits like plums have nutrients called bioflavonoids that also act as antioxidants. Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruit have Vitamin C and antioxidants. Many of these fruits have antioxidants that help increase circulation to the scalp, which encourages hair growth.

  1. Cucumber Juice

Another juice to drink for hair loss is the cucumber juice. Known to promote strong healthy hair, cucumber juice can help prevent hair loss by helping the body fight its common causes. The other benefits of cucumber juice are weight loss or prevention of weight gain, a stronger heart, stronger blood vessels, and better circulation; benefits which can be directly related to the juice being able to prevent hair loss. Ideally, cucumber juice should be consumed in the morning.

  1. Strawberry Juice

Collagen surrounds the hair strands but as we age collagen breaks down, causing hair to be more vulnerable to breaking. The best way to boost collagen is not through some expensive medical procedure, it’s by getting more vitamin C that is high in strawberries.

Despite all the great effects of juice, one should not to overdo it. One or two glasses of fresh fruit juice each day is all the body needs to stay healthy and prevent hair loss problems. The rest of a person’s liquid intake should be water.
