President Obama inspires activists for final sprint of open enrollment at healthcare.gov

With just 2 days remaining before the final December 15 deadline, former President Barack Obama joined a Get America Covered call with several hundred people who are working tirelessly to help Americans sign up for quality, affordable coverage at HealthCare.gov.

Former President Obama thanked everybody for their hard work and for their commitment to making sure people understand their options. You can view the transcript here and below are a couple of quotes from former President Obama getting people ready for the final sprint:

“This year, that commitment has been greater than ever. So far, we’ve gotten more people covered this year than in past years, which is incredible given that there’s been so little advertising or outreach from some official quarters to remind people when and how they should get covered.  That’s because of your work and the time that you’ve taken to thanks to spread the word.”

“Now, open enrollment ends this Friday, December 15th, which means that the final week to get covered for 2018 is upon us.  And because the deadline falls a full month and a half earlier than usual this year, a lot of people don’t know that this week is their last chance. So I know that a lot of you are making the final push to get as many families covered as possible.  I don’t need to tell you, I know I’m preaching to the choir, but spread the word that people can still sign up through this Friday at HealthCare.gov or calling 1-800-318-2596.”

Former President Obama was joined by Get America Covered co-founder Lori Lodes; Jodi Ray, Director and Principal Investigator for Florida Covering Kids & Families, at the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies; and Andy Slavitt, national co-chair of Get America Covered and former Acting Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Participants included enrollment navigators, assisters, faith leaders, volunteers and other stakeholders who are working across the country to sign people up for coverage.

In addition, former President Obama tweeted and posted on Facebook after the call encouraging people to sign up and to reach out to their friends and family.
