#Realmen #Investingirls
The 7th annual International Day of the Girl is Thursday, October 11. In recognition of this global celebration, Polished Pebbles Girls Mentoring Program will hold their annual fundraising event to help raise awareness of the importance of mentoring and nurturing the world’s 1.1 billion girls. The reception is Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Row 24, 2411 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Real Men Invest In Girls” and Polished Pebbles will honor men who support the organization. The honorees include some of Chicago’s most impactful leading men:
Reginald Cotton, Charity Contributors; Quention Curtis, Black Fire Brigade; Andre Fair, Omar Medical Supplies; William Hall, Acts of Love & St. James Church Community; Chris Harris, Bright Star Community Outreach; Calvin King, Free Lunch Academy & The Chicago Urban League; Percy Ollie, Ollie Photography; Vondale Singleton, CHAMPS Mentoring, Gary Comer Campus, Noble Street Charter School; Will Torres, UChicago Charter Schools; and Carl West, TBT Media. Chris Curse, Chris Curse & Company is the event chair and Gregory Hinton, Gregory Group Advisors is the honorary chair.
“Now, more than ever, girls need our time and attention,” explains Kelly Fair, Founder and Executive Director, Polished Pebbles. “Chicago girls, ages 7-17 years, are increasingly victims and perpetrators of violence. While much attention and aid has been given to low-income, boys, adolescent girls who live in the same neighborhoods and experience the same violence have been largely ignored.”
Polished Pebbles has developed a unique approach towards violence prevention and career readiness in partnership with the Cook County Justice Advisory Board, the Chicago Police Department, and the Chicago Public Schools Career and Technical Education Department and numerous corporate partners. The organization’s goal is to prepare the girls to enter their adult lives on a career track and with mentors in place to help achieve their goals.
The Polished Pebbles experience includes a VIP reception, spirits and special menu items throughout the evening. General tickets are $75, VIP tickets are $125. Sponsors of this year’s reception include Bloomingdale’s, Rémy Martin and Wells Fargo.
