‘Please Come Home’: Amber Alert issued for missing Indiana teen believed to be in ‘extreme danger’

By Chris Hush,

A statewide Amber Alert was issued in Indiana for a missing 15-year-old girl who is believed to be abducted.

Gary police issued the alert saying Chastinea Reeves was last seen around 2 a.m. Monday near 2027 Main St. in Gary and “is believed to be in extreme danger.”

Family members told NBC 5 her mother was the victim of a “violent crime.”

Relatives say Reeves came running into the home of a family member on Main Street with her young sibling.

“She was hysterical,” said Kelli McMillan, a relative.

McMillan then called 911 to report that her sister-in-law, Reeves’ mother, was hurt.

“When I was making my phone call, Chastinea, she ran out the backdoor,” McMillan said.

Gary police have so far not released details regarding the crime committed against the teen’s mother.

“There’s just too many unknowns, she’s young, it’s very cold outside, we don’t believe she has any means to care for herself at this time,” said Gary police Lt. Dawn Westerfield.

Asked if she had a message for McMillan for Chastinea, McMillan pleaded with the 15-year-old.

“Just come home, you’re not in trouble, we just want to help you—that’s all.” she said.

Police said the girl’s mother was “involved in a crime.” She had gone to get help when she went missing, authorities said.

Reeves is described as a black female, standing 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a grey t-shirt and black jeans.

“It is urgent we locate Chastinea and assure she is safe from harm,” the department said in the alert.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the Gary Police Department at 1-888-58AMBER or call 911.
