The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 on Sunday, February 9, at Super Bowl LIX.
The Eagles stopped the Chiefs 3-peat in its tracks with a strong effort defensively and a balance attack offensively.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was named the games Most Valuable Player after losing to the Chiefs two seasons ago in the big game.
In the first half, Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts, which extended the Eagles’ lead to 17–0. After the Chiefs won the coin toss and deferred possession to the second half, the Eagles received the opening kickoff, which was a touchback.
The Eagles’ initial drive took 6 plays to gain 20 yards to the 50. An offensive pass interference call on the Eagles’ A.J. Brown negated a 32-yard pass on third down, forcing them to punt. After the two-minute warning, Mahomes threw another interception to Zack Baun, which set up a 12-yard touchdown pass from Hurts to Brown.
In the second half, the Chiefs’ drive was stalled at their own 37. The Eagles responded by driving down the field 69 yards, which ended with a 29-yard kick from Jake Elliott. A pass from Mahomes to DeAndre Hopkins fell incomplete, resulting in a turnover on downs. On the next play, Hurts threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith, increasing the Eagles’ score to 34.
In the fourth quarter, Mahomes fumbled the ball on a strip sack, which was recovered by the Eagles and led to a 50-yard field goal from Elliott.
Final Score: The Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40–22 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, the eighth Super Bowl hosted at the venue. The game was a rematch of Super Bowl LVII two years prior, where the Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35. The game was televised in the United States by Fox and streamed on Tubi.
