A perjury charge has been dropped against the Texas state trooper who arrested Sandra Bland after saying she assaulted him.
Brian Encinia was charged last year after video evidence from his traffic stop of Bland contradicted his claim that she had assaulted him.
Bland, a 28-year-old from the Chicago area, died several days later at a jail northwest of Houston in what authorities say was a suicide, though her family has maintained that she would never have killed herself.
Encinia agreed Wednesday to turn in his law enforcement license and never again work in the field in exchange for the dismissal of the misdemeanor perjury charge.
