There is a saying that “The chosen few choose themselves.” Whether this is true or not, there is no doubt that every thought, word, or deed that we initiate ends up written on the walls of our personal experience and are shaping our destinies. The real truth is that we DO create pathways determined by the decisions that we make. When observing society, some people have more influence over what gets recorded as history than others. These are the people who see the benefits of highlighting and preserving our historic experiences. If it weren’t for them, people, places, and experiences would be forgotten. One of the people who has made an effort in this regard is Peggy A. Montes.
There have been many times people have honored the outstanding work of dedicated and fantastic women in Chicago during the month of March, but very often people have no knowledge about how the Women’s History Month celebration started in Chicago.
According to a proclamation issued by Mayor Eugene Sawyer in 1989, he commended the Chicago Commission on Women headed by Peggy A. Montes for initiating the awareness and observance of National Women’s Week and Women’s History Month for the first time in the history of Chicago in 1986. Also, in recognition of Peggy’s dedicated work on empowering women, the Cook County Commission on Women’s Issues is honoring Cook County women at the 28th Annual Peggy A. Montes 2025 Unsung Heroines Awards on Thursday, March 20th at the Union League Club of Chicago.
It is a good thing that there are people like Peggy A. Montes who strive to contribute to our world. It is because of them that we can look back on our mistakes in order to plan for a more productive future. We salute Peggy A. Montes.
SOBERING THOUGHTS ABOUT SOME SERIOUS MATTERS
There is a reason that life manifests as it does. Cause and effect are real, i.e., “things that go around come around.” We continually meet the result of causes that we release through our actions. With this in mind, a thought-provoking issue will be offered about the current state of the Trump regime’s America. Essentially, Trump and his cohorts use ‘divide and conquer’ as a chief strategy. Immigrants are one of the biggest scapegoats being used in this regard. As a result, our society is devolving.
Consider the irony of the situation: immigrants are blamed for everything bad, which encourages people to hate them. In actuality, however, ALL AMERICANS who are happy to see the immigrants deported are forgetting that they, themselves, either are immigrants or have descended from immigrants! We are a nation of immigrants. Case in point: Donald Trump’s grandparents immigrated from Germany; Trump’s wife is an immigrant; J.D. Vance’s wife’s parents are immigrants; Kash Patel, the new head of the FBI, has immigrant parents; Elon Musk, the “unofficial” official head of DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) is an immigrant. This country was founded (conquered!) by people who ran roughshod over the indigenous people, went to Africa and, stole people from there, and forced them into slavery while taking liberties with them that wildly cruel barbarians would admire.
This is the crux of the matter: what goes around comes around. There is a term that people use to describe this phenomenon—“Karma.” Karma is a reality wherein people get back what they put out. America’s founders and cohorts have hell to pay when considering how everyone who is not a white male has historically been subjected to various and sundry methods of mistreatment. Because of this, our country is in for a big, Karmic re-set, which seems to be where we are now heading.
The new American regime is a reflection AND consequence of America’s Karma. If we are on the brink of losing our democracy, it is because the powers-that-be have crafted a society of entitled sycophants who would rather not see females, gays, transgenders, or any other type of non-standard white males make progress. The deliberate elimination of federal DEI initiatives points to this and is proof positive of America’s bigoted inclinations. The inmates have taken control of the asylum! Aluta continua.
