The League of Women Voters of the Calumet Area and RiseNWI have partnered to launch VOTE411.org, an information hub for Lake County, Indiana elections. The site includes candidate questionnaires, customized ballots for voters, as well as additional resources including voting dates and times.
Before heading to the polls this November, Lake County residents are encouraged to visit VOTE411.org to receive nonpartisan information regarding 2018 candidates.
Barb Schilling, League of Women Voters of the Calumet Area president, wants voters to be educated and feel confident when entering the polls. “Please use this guide to help you “hire” the candidates that best represent your views on issues that are important to you.”
Vote411.org users can enter their address on the site to receive a sample ballot that lists all races and candidates that will appear on their actual ballot on Election Day. Users can also access questionnaires that candidates have submitted. Neither RiseNWI nor the League of Women Voters edit the answers, so users can be confident they are reading the candidates’ position in their own words.
Each Lake County candidate has been invited to participate in the questionnaire. “We are happy to see the number of candidates excited to share their responses,” said RiseNWI Community Engagement Coordinator, Maranda Fishback. “As of now, we have approximately 30% of candidate responses. We encourage all candidates to participate in this unique opportunity to present their positions.”
Both the League of Women Voters and RiseNWI are nonpartisan, non-profit organizations that do not endorse, support, or oppose individual candidates or political parties. For more information email contact@- risenwi.org
Through training, networking, and resources, RiseNWI equips all citizens to be active participants in their communities. This nonpartisan initiative empowers residents to get involved in local government and be strong advocates for improved quality of life in Northwest Indiana. RiseNWI is funded in partnership with the Legacy Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
