Panelists slated, for Town Hall on Race, Justice, Community and Policing

Leaders of Northwest Indiana will convene a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Genesis Convention in Gary to discuss the issues of Race, Justice, Community and Policing in communities.

The City of Gary, the Urban League of Northwest Indiana and Lakeshore Public Media; organizers of the Town Hall, today announced the names of the six (6) panelists slated for the discussion. Panelists include Portage Police Chief Troy Williams, Gary Police Chief Larry McKinley, Pastor Javon Blakely, Michigan City, Laurel Kilpatrick, East Chicago, Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, Gary and Mayor Brian Snedecor, Hobart.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Garrard McClendon, a region native and host of the public affairs show, CounterPoint with Garrard McClendon on Lakeshore Public Media.

The Town Hall meeting is designed to be a public dialogue among Northwest Indiana communities directed at formulating innovative solutions to critical concerns in the face of racial polarization. Organizers say local communities must be vigilant in efforts to identify factors that can improve the quality of life in Northwest Indiana.

While the format of the meeting will provide an opportunity for audience questions of the panelists, Lakeshore Public Media will record the forum to be aired on Lakeshore Public Television the next evening, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Audience questions or comments must therefore be restricted to time limits. The number of questions, comments received from the audience will be limited. Additionally as the meeting will be taped for television, those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive at the Genesis Center in a timely manner.
