Opportunity Enterprises seeks 500 Packathon volunteers

The second Saturday after Labor Day has become synonymous with Opportunity Enterprises’ Annual Packathon. At least 500 volunteers are needed to make this giant event happen on September 16, 2017. Packathon is a 5-6 hour event where volunteers come together to support Opportunity Enterprises by stuffing 45,000 Chicago Mara-thon participant bags.

“It is a great fun day for the community to show up in force to support OE’s amazing clients,” said Ellen DeMartinis, Chief Executive Officer. “In just a handful of hours, each individual’s short sacrifice of time translates to direct dollars to support our amazing clients. There is no other event I know of that is both full of volunteer spirit and a direct jolt to the bottom line.”

Approximately 500-600 volunteers will meet at 8 am to stuff bags to be delivered to the Chicago Marathon. The day lasts until all bags are stuffed, but generally takes 5-6 hours. Volunteers will be supplied with plenty of food and beverage to keep them going strong through the event thanks to DJ AJ and Papa John’s and donations by Strack and Van Til, Family Express, Starbucks, and American Licorice.

“Packathon is a high energy event that builds camaraderie and supports OE’s mission at the same time. It is fun and accessible to families; youth and student groups; church and corporate groups; sports teams and clubs; seniors; sororities and fraternities; and individuals,” said Amy Wulf, event coordinator.

Volunteers can sign up as teams or individuals at www.oppent.org/pack17. Then show up before 8am on September 16, 2017 at Opportunity Enterprises Main Office at 2801 Evans Avenue in Valparaiso. For more information contact Amy Wulf at 219.464.9621 ex 333 or [email protected].
