Officials extend weekend hours at Marquette Park

While beach season officially comes to an end on Labor Day, visitors to the beach will be able to enjoy beautiful Marquette Park a little longer. The city will extend weekend hours at Marquette Park through September.

Weather permitting, parking lots in Marquette Park, the Concession Stand and Lake Street parking lots will be open on Saturdays and Sundays, from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. The same rates to park will apply. While the parking lots will be open, visitors are strongly advised to stay out of the water. LIFEGUARDS WILL NOT BE ON DUTY.

Visitors are also advised that parking lots will be closed when the temperature drops below 70 degrees, when thunderstorms are present, or if the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issues swim advisories (hazardous surf conditions, bacteria, etc.) Visitors are encouraged to visit www.noaa.gov for regular weather and beach advisories updates.

Additionally, bacteria testing regularly performed during the beach season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) will conclude on Labor Day. Anyone who chooses to enter Lake Michigan after Labor Day, does so at their own risk.

The Parks Department continues to enforce its Carry in-Carry out policy. The department may be contacted at 219-886-7099 for any additional information.
