The Links, Incorporated is an international women’s service organization committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. Members contribute more than 1 million hours of community service annually-strengthening their communities.
The Northern Indiana Chapter of the Links, Inc. was organized in Gary, IN by the late Inez Brewer in 1958. The current charter encompasses Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties. The chapter supports programs sponsored by the Links’ national organization which addresses five Facets: The Arts, Services to Youth, National and International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services. The group’s signature program is S.T.E.M. Other programs include Girls Night Lock In, free mammograms, purchase of a cow for Malawi, annual scholarships, voter registration, participation in back to school giveaways, and free dental screenings in partnership with the Colgate Bus.
The Northern Indiana (IN) Links, Inc. recently celebrated its 60th Anniversary at Sand Creek Country Club, Chesterton, Ind. An estimated 200 guests attended the event. Chicago’s WGN, Channel 9 charismatic news reporter, Gaynor Hall guided the program as the Mistress of Ceremony. The Links proudly welcomed former National President, Gwendolyn Lee as the keynote speaker. Guests were entertained by the soulful sounds of former Emerson student Alaina Renae & DJ Awl Out. Chapter President, Alesia Pritchett noted that, “The organization will continue to build upon our foundation of being linked in friendship and dedicated to service!”
