Morehouse against Miles College in Chicago Football Classic

Crusader Staff Report

Morehouse College will play Miles College in the 21st annual Chicago Football Classic on Saturday September 22 at Soldier Field, according to the event’s website.

It will be the third appearance for Morehouse, a prominent historically Black college in Atlanta that has produced some of the nation’s top Black leaders.

This will be the first appearance for Miles College, a private, 120-year-old HBCU located in Fairfax, AL, six miles from Birmingham. The Morehouse Maroon Tigers and the Miles Golden Bears have never played one another in the Chicago Football Classic. Morehouse is 2-0 in the annual event, defeating Central State twice in 2014 and 2015.

For 20 years the Chicago Football Classic has been an annual fall tradition that attracts thousands of families from Chicago’s Black community. Many come to see the HBCU bands battle for bragging rights during halftime. The Classic will also include the Battle of High School Bands, showcasing Chicago’s most talented young musicians. This year, Proviso East High School will attempt to win its fifth consecutive title.

As in years past, the Classic will also include a golf outing, a pep rally and a vendor marketplace. For tickets, go to www.chicagofootballclassic.biz.
