A Moment to Super Size Your Thinking

By Effie Rolfe

Yes You Can. Ironically, this phrase was similar to the Yes We Can campaign slogan used by then Presidential Candidate Barack Obama in 2008. Fast-forward, 7 ½ years later and the country has just experienced the most bizarre and highly charged presidential campaign resulting in Donald Trump as President Elect. Who would have ever thought that this would be our lot? Protests have occurred daily in various cities because people cannot believe nearly 56 million Americans actually voted for someone who has been accused of hate mongering, rape, bad temperament, endorsed by the KKK, an adulterer and has at least three baby momas. The real estate mogul and former Host of NBC’s The Apprentice will now make major decisions affecting the world from the Oval Office for the next four years.

Analysts have said many viewed Donald as an experimental medicine—people were so sick and tired of the status quo that they were willing to try anything.

You just gotta’ think—surely God has a sense of humor. Yet in His infinite omniscience, while the world watched all night, God already knew the 2016 election results from the beginning of time. Regardless of your lack of experience or support you have to believe in your own abilities. I’ve got a message for you, if Donald Trump can do it—anybody can. No limits. So what? You say you don’t know how or have the experience? You have a record and your past is not so squeaky clean? It doesn’t matter—realize your dream. You can still do whatever you set your mind to do. Believe that you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).

As we move swiftly into the holidays and through the last quarter of 2016, we must stop waiting for the ‘ideal time.’ It does not exist! So often, waiting for the perfect situation only prolongs one from making the necessary steps to accomplish goals and desires. I believe the underlying reason that people wait before initiating a task is the fear of the unknown. Most people would rather live in a known hell rather than experience an unknown heaven. Not only is it common to have fear, but also, it’s good to have fear in that it causes an adrenalin rush to get the job done. So feel the fear and experience it, more importantly, you just can’t allow that fear to hold you hostage of what needs to be accomplished. The worse thing that could happen is you fail to succeed. C.S. Lewis said, “Failures are finger posts’ on the road to achievement.” No one is or ever will be exempt from mess-ups—it’s an integral part of life.

Let us end this year reaching for greatness, favor and blessings. The only way to get what is rightfully yours is to get up and get out. Unfortunately, our talk is too often backed by little action, as if the words alone will take wings and manifest. This only happens when your talk equals faith “….according to your faith let it be done to you (Matthew 9:29).” Anyone who has ever done anything probably didn’t accomplish perfection during the first trial run. In most cases, you have to fail your way to success. Winston Churchill said, “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” Yes, timing is everything, but you can’t keep waiting and waiting until the so-called perfect time when EVERYTHING will be just right. Maya Angelou said, “Nothing changes unless you do…” The way to change your life and impact the lives of others is to stop hiding behind fear. One word of encouragement could catapult someone into destiny. You don’t have to be perfect to live in an imperfect world. Not only are you imperfect, so is the world and everyone around you. God doesn’t require perfection—He only wants availability for you to be about kingdom work and begin to walk into a spirit of excellence. Perhaps we can learn from President Elect Donald Trump’s playbook. Step into your greatness and out of fear—just get it done. Can you do it? Yes you can.

What do you need to accomplish before the end of 2016…?
