Memorial Service for officers killed in the line of duty

Gary law enforcement officers and city officials honored law enforcement members killed in the line of duty over the Memorial Day weekend. On Friday May 26, families, friends and colleagues of deceased officers viewed a moving ceremony as the deaths of 15 officers were acknowledged.

The Gary Police Department has lost 15 comrades since 1921. The most recent death in the line of duty was that of Patrolman Jeffrey Brady Westerfield. He was killed by gunfire on July, 6, 2014.

Family members and law enforcement officers representing absentee family members, placed a flower in a memorial wreath for each of the 15 fallen officers. The ceremony was held at the Gary Public Safety Facility on North Avondale.
