As part of National Men’s Health Month and in celebration of the upcoming Father’s Day holiday, from 4:30-8 p.m., on Wednesday, June 12, St. Mary Medical Center will present a free program – Men’s Wellness Expo: On Par for Good Health. The event will feature free health screenings and information on a variety of men’s health topics. Noted PGA golfer Fred Funk will make an appearance and be available to meet with attendees one-on-one for golf tips and swing analysis.
Presented by St. Mary Medical Center in collaboration with Stryker Orthopedics, the program also will include hors d’oeuvres, a spirits tasting station and other activities. There will be door prizes and a raffle.
Free health screenings will include grip strength, blood pressure, body composition and one-minute EKGs. Additionally, clinical specialists will be on hand to discuss a variety of men’s health issues including lung, prostate and colon cancer, heart disease, stroke, pain management, physical therapy and behavioral health.
“June is a month when we focus on men’s wellness and the latest advancements and treatments for conditions that affect their health,” said St. Mary Medical Center CEO Janice Ryba. “Summertime is a season when men are likely to pursue leisurely activities like golf, fishing, athletic tournaments or other outdoor pursuits. That may be the time when symptoms of chronic conditions like hip or shoulder pain, pulmonary disease or a heart condition become more noticeable or impactful on day-to-day health.
“We are pleased to have PGA pro Fred Funk and Stryker Orthopedics joining us for this event, and we hope that husbands, fathers and sons in our local communities will join us at Innsbrook Country Club for a fun evening of golf, good food, and wellness screenings and activities,” Ryba said.
Stryker Orthopedics is the manufacturer of Mako™ Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology for total and partial knee replacement. St. Mary Medical Center is the only hospital in Northwest Indiana to offer robot-assisted knee-replacement surgery.
Fred Funk is one of the most recognizable names and personalities in golf. He has impressed and charmed galleries in a professional golf career spanning more than 25 years. He is an eight-time PGA Tour winner and has added nine Champions Tour titles including three Major Championships since turning 50 in 2006. In 2005 Funk won the PLAYERS Championship, and he represented the United States as a member of the 2003 and 2005 President’s Cup teams and the 2004 Ryder Cup team.
In November 2009, Funk underwent total knee replacement. He later won the 2010 JELD-WEN Tradition, becoming the only golfer in history to win an official Tour event after total knee replacement surgery.
Funk will be on hand to meet with golfers one-on-one for pro tips and swing analysis. St. Mary Medical Center will also have an athletic trainer on hand who specializes in golf to provide tips on a healthy, proper golf stance and posture.
