Meals on Wheels’ annual “Dine with the Chefs” event will be held on Sunday, March 10, at Avalon Manor, located at 3550 E Lincoln Highway in Merrillville.
Guests can enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails at 11 a.m., followed by a five-course sit-down dinner with a unique menu created and prepared by 10 local chefs.
The “Dine with the Chefs” event raises over $70,000 each year in support of Meals on Wheels’ mission to deliver nutritious meals to those in need with the support of community volunteers.
Each ticket costs $125 and serves as a donation to the non-profit organization. A silent and live auction of gifts donated by local restaurants and the community will also be held throughout the event, presenting more opportunities to donate.
After 18 years of the “Dine with the Chefs” event bringing together the community and showcasing the creativity of local chefs, Margot Clark, creator of the event, reflects on her decision to begin the fundraiser.
“It seemed like the perfect marriage between chefs who spend their whole life making food and Meals on Wheels, which focuses on making food for elders and the disabled,” Clark said. “I contacted the Chef Association of Indiana and found them to be very interested in the community and we brainstormed together. They provide their expertise and the menu, with all the proceeds going to Meals on Wheels.”
Ruben Cavalo, chef and owner of Ruben’s Mexican Grill, has participated in the “Dine with the Chefs” event for more than 10 years.
“It’s a great cause because we all can relate. We all have family members in need,” Cavalo said. “I am happy to take the time to participate and work around many talented chefs.”
The event welcomes all foodies looking to enjoy an array of gourmet options while helping Meals on Wheels continue to serve meals for those in need.
