Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson congratulates area residents at certification graduation

On Friday, November 3, 2017, City of Gary’s Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson made a visit to Work-One in Gary to congratulate and address 10 area students who received nationally recognized certifications in both Retail Fundamentals and Serv-Safe® Food Handling.

The graduates were delighted to have the Mayor there to recognize their achievements and provide a motivating address as they move forward on an exciting career path. The students completed the two-week training course, facilitated at Work-One Gary. Coursework focused on the basic principles of retail, customer service, general food service knowledge, and best food safety practices.

The next available trainings for retail will be Loss Prevention training from December 4-22, 2017, Customer Service & Sales from January 16-29, 2018, and Retail Fundamentals from February 19-March 2, 2018. This training will take place at the Retail Training Lab at Southlake Mall in Merrillville.

The no-cost training programs are made possible with funding from Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership through a Walmart Foundation grant.
