Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson announced her attendance and support of the community-wide Vigil to be held at Temple Israel on Friday, November 2, 2018 in honor of the victims of the Pittsburgh massacre.
Mayor Freeman-Wilson said, “Like many citizens in and out of Gary, I was horrified at these senseless slayings at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. The support of our city’s Jewish community is important, and we must send a message that we will not stand for bigotry based on religion, race, national origin, gender or ability. It is also noteworthy that the Temple Israel’s Vigil is not only in support of Jewish people but all people who have suffered discrimination or unfair treatment based on race, religion, national origin, or any other aspect of their identity that causes people to treat others differently. “
Temple Israel is located at 601 N. Montgomery Street in Gary. The Vigil begins at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited.
