The Thornton Township High Schools District 205 Student Board of Education is presenting their third Annual “March For Peace” on Saturday, October 20th at Ascension St. Susanna Catholic Church, 15234 Myrtle Ave, Harvey, IL. Time 10: AM – 2: PM

The Student Board of Education of Thornton Township High Schools District 205 President, Patience Butler, says, “We are taking the stand against gang violence, Police brutality and for legislation on gun control. You will witness our impact in the classrooms and in our community.”

The “March For Peace” on Saturday morning will be anticipating over 1000 students, families, and supporters. According, to District 205 Board President Nina Graham, its simple “Bring The Peace. Our community, family households, students, and schools are depending on us!”

Superintendent, Dr. Nathaniel Cunningham Jr., embraces the students and states, “Our students are on the cutting edge of history, becoming educational change agents. However, young lives are being flushed away with street violence, while gangs are soliciting our brilliants minds of the future. We all have a responsibility to stand for what is right, although sometimes it may be a challenge between life and death. We must, and I will stand for what is right!

Rev. Dr. Ozzie E. Smith Jr., Senior Pastor of Covenant United Church of Christ will be the Keynote Speaker at the March for Peace. Rev. Smith states, “The fate and well-being of our community is in our hands. If there is to be another generation, the present one must be able to thrive alive. God did not create us to kill or hate, but to live. We must choose to live despite those who believe otherwise. God is faithful!”
