Magness PUSHing voter registration fever

By Chinta Strausberg, Chicago Crusader

Betty Magness, Illinois political director for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, is busy registering people to vote for what the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. calls the Nov. 8th “superbowl” election, long after last Tuesdays’ National Voter Registration Day (NVRD).

Registration ends October 11th; however, Magness asks that you click on Rainbowpush.org and click on “register to vote.” “What is most encouraging about doing voter registration is seeing the new millennials step up and play their part in the upcoming election.”

According to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, early voting for the November 8, 2016 General Election runs from October 24 to November 7th, Monday through Saturday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can also vote during the evening hours Monday, October 31st to Friday, November 4th from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday, November 7th from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Illinois is one of 33 states and the District of Columbia that allow early voting, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Those states that do not have early voting are: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Massachusetts; Michigan; Minnesota; Mississippi; Missouri; New Hampshire; New York; Oregon; Pennsylvania; Rhode Island; South Carolina; Virginia; and Washington.
