Entrants are able to submit in three categories: creative writing, media arts and multimedia/visual arts. The contest runs from October 1 – November 30, 2018 and the offers students the opportunity to win a $2,000 1st place prize or a $1,250 2nd place prize in each category. Participation in the Walgreens Expressions Challenge also provides students with an opportunity to have their work publicly showcased through a traveling art show that visits schools and organizations across the metropolitan area. Winners from previous years have noted that the Walgreens Expressions Challenge has given them a chance to share what they are passionate about through their creativity and talents.
4U ByU is being celebrated in Chicago as a part of National Arts in Education Week. Research shows that youth who participate in the arts are more likely to be successful in school, college and career than those who did not have an education. The arts provide a pathway to success for all students. National Arts in Education Week was designated by a Congressional Resolution to bring attention to the cause of arts education for elected officials, educational decision makers and to support equitable access to the arts for all.
Parents, teachers and community leaders are asked to encourage Chicago teens from all over the city to enter the 2018 Walgreens Expressions Challenge.
