LA Fitness on King Drive closing for $1.3M renovation

LA Fitness

The popular LA Fitness in Bronzeville’s Lake Meadows Shopping Center will close October 14 for a $1.3 million renovation project.

The fitness chain opened its Bronzeville facility in 2014. In addition to free weights and cardio equipment, the fitness center offers a pool, two group fitness studios, a childcare facility and a café.

The LA Fitness corporate office did not respond to an email from the Chicago Crusader, but staff at the Bronzeville location said the facility will be closed for two weeks during the renovation.

Members recently received notice of the project through a flyer posted at the front desk of the facility, 3435 S. Martin Luther King Dr.

According to the flyer, new cardio and strength equipment will be installed, and flooring throughout the fitness center will be replaced, including the tiles on the pool deck. Several areas will be refurbished, among them the training area and locker rooms. The saunas in the men’s and women’s locker rooms will also receive upgrades.

The interior will be given a new look with fresh paint and updated wall graphics. The current color scheme of muted green and orange mirrors other LA Fitness locations.

While the company did not provide details on the new Bronzeville design, LA Fitness recently renovated its South Loop facility on Roosevelt Road. That 10-day project included new equipment, refurbished locker rooms, and an interior makeover with black and gold wall décor. The South Loop’s new look has received positive reviews online from members.
