After completing his third season as head varsity football coach for the Kenwood Academy High School Broncos, coach Sinque Turner, a former three sport athlete standout from Simeon Career Academy and an Eastern Illinois University graduate, wants to lead the Broncos to their first ever championship next year.
But Turner knows he will have to do it on the shoulders of returning junior QB Kaleb Garner and star junior wide receiver Dante Reynolds.
Garner, a 2021 prospect from Chicago’s Kenwood Academy, currently stands at 5-foot-9 and weighs 150 pounds.
And according to scouting reports, his best skills on the football field are being intelligent, staying poised under center and being able to throw the ball with accuracy. Garner will look to improve those attributes during the off season after falling 28-13 to Deerfield High School in the second round of the state playoffs.
In spite of the playoff loss to Deerfield, scouts say Garner, a 2021 prospect, displayed confidence during the routes-on-air drill over the summer. They said he threw some level-two deep balls that were delivered with pinpoint accuracy during the drills.
Garner’s highlight of the season was leading the Broncos to a first round upset over Riverside Brookfield and a second round appearance in the 2019 IHSA State Playoffs, a feat that has not been accomplished by the school’s football team since 1986.
Garner’s current teammate, wide receiver Dante Reynolds, one of the team’s touchdown leaders and one of Garner’s favorite go to guys has currently received offers from two Division I schools: Florida Atlantic and Southern Mississippi University.
Reynolds currently holds a 31-inch vertical leap and runs a 4.75 in the forty.
