Katie Hall Awards honor Public Service

This year has been an extraordinary year for the Katie Hall Education Foundation, Inc. with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Over 150 people attended the foundation’s recent 6th Annual Katie Hall Public Service Awards VIP reception and Luncheon at the Gary Convention Genesis Center on April 7.

Each year the Katie Hall Educational Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors honors individuals with several distinguished awards.

The guest of honor and keynote speaker was Attorney Juan R. Thomas, 75th President of the National Bar Association (NBA). Attorney Thomas was awarded the 2018 Katie Hall Public Service Award. In addition to his service at the NBA, Thomas is counsel to Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., and the founder and principal of the Thomas Law Group.

Additional 2018 Katie Hall Educational Foundation honorees were Dr. Carla Knorowski, CEO, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation; Attorney Robert L. Lewis, Senior Partner, Robert L. Lewis & Associates; and the Honorable Mary Brown, Member, Gary Common Council (3rd District).

Dr. Knorowski’s not-for-profit manages the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, which documents the life of the 16th President, and the course of the American Civil War. Her visit to Gary and Northwest Indiana represented the first visit of a U.S. Presidential Library high-ranking official.

A special Chairman’s Award was presented to Mr. Justin Blandford, Site Superintendent, and Illinois State Historic Sites at Springfield in honor of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln (posthumous).
