The City has partnered with Community HealthNet Health Centers, Covering Kids & Families and the Gary South Shore RailCats to host the free Citywide Back-2-School Health Fair & Giveaway this weekend.

The annual event will be held on Saturday August 12, 2017 at the U.S. Steel Yard RailCats Stadium, 1 Stadium Plaza. The event has attracted over 1,000 attendees and hundreds of excited students. Students returning to school will have an opportunity to have some fun, enjoy hot dogs and receive immunizations, physicals, dental screenings, health and nutrition information and free school supplies. Boys will receive free haircuts and girls will be treated to free manicures (limited and with parental consent.) Physicals and immunizations are also limited. Parents should bring shot records and school physical forms. Children receiving these services must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents may also take advantage of the on-site enrollment for Health Coverage at the fair. Various types of information will be needed such as photo ID, birth certificates, social security cards and proof of income. Call 219-886-8980 for more information.

Sponsors this year include Indiana American Water, Walgreens, Indiana University Northwest, the Gary Common Council, Lil Lou’s Beauty & Barber College, Heartland Blood Centers, Kool Smiles, and the Indiana State Department of Health. The Back-2-School event is also supported by the Managed Care Entities-Anthem, Care Source, MDwise and MHS.
