IU Northwest alumna inspires with her personal story

The Indiana University Northwest Office of Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs invites the campus and community to a presentation entitled “Motivated for Excellence: From Teen Mother to Tenacious Leader,” at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12 in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium, located in the Savannah Center.

The speaker is Paulina Johnson, a Gary native and IU Northwest alumna who earned—against all odds —her bachelor’s degree in computer information systems (1998) and a master of business administration degree (2002) from IU Northwest. Johnson will discuss how her education transformed her into a steel industry leader and ways in which people can use the lessons she learned to succeed at any task.

Johnson is a self-published author, having released her first memoir, “I AM YOU – Achieving Against All Odds” in June 2008, (re-released in 2016). Johnson will release her second book, “When Success Calls, Achieve Against All Odds,” this fall.

Johnson, a mother of four who currently resides in Michigan, has spent her corporate career in the sales department of ArcelorMittal USA. Her purpose is to share how she overcame significant life challenges and provide tools to help individuals pursue their life’s aspirations despite any obstacles they may face.
