HARVEST FEAST CELEBRATION SCHEDULED FOR NOV. 22

State Representative Vernon G. Smith (D-Gary) said the Harvest Feast will celebrate its 28th anniversary on Friday, November 22 by offering its traditional Thanksgiving meal as well as inspirational gospel music.

“For the past two decades, we have brought together the people of our community for a delicious meal, warm fellowship and heavenly, gospel music,” Smith said. “We will have tremendously talented groups that will share their music throughout the entire evening. All Gary residents are welcome to join us for this very special event.”

The Harvest Feast will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a church service at the Greater St. Stephens M.B. Church in Gary. After the service, a full, traditional Thanksgiving meal will be served. It will feature turkey, dressing, beef roast, macaroni and cheese, green beans, greens, mashed potatoes, and dessert. Various musical groups are also scheduled to perform. The event is free and open to the public.

Smith encourages senior citizens, groups, and all Gary and Merrillville citizens to attend the Harvest Feast.

The Indiana University Northwest professor organizes and presents the event every year as a memorial to his mother, the Reverend Julia E. Smith, former pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and his aunt, Magnolia Allen.
