Harry Lennix film screening of ‘Revival’ Dec. 18 at The Dusable Museum

Renowned actor Harry Lennix (The Blacklist, Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, The Matrix,) announced recently that Monday, December 18th has been set for a select screening of his film “Revival,” a telling of the gospel according to John the Apostle. With original and contemporary gospel music, “Revival” is a joyful blend of Gospel fantasia, Broadway musical and epic historical drama. This special screening will take place at 6:30 p.m. at The DuSable Museum of African American History, 740 East 56th Place, Chicago followed by an intimate talk back with Lennix, Dr. Holly Carter and cast members moderated by award winning journalist Sylvia Ewing. The evening is a collaboration between Exponent Media Group, Lennix’s production company, Congo Square Theatre, DuSable Museum of African American History, The HistoryMakers and Trinity Church.

Said Lennix, “Revival” is a project that has lived in my heart for many years. It espouses a message of love and spiritual courage, something like an open love letter that can help comfort all of us as we process the chaos of daily life.”

Co-screenwriter and producer Holly Carter of Relevé Entertainment (“Preachers of LA/ Detroit/Atlanta,” “The Gospel”) added: “This project brings moments of the Bible alive in a way that is awe inspiring and deeply fulfilling. It offers a unique and creative approach to the gospel of John. ‘Revival’ is an aspirational, musical experience for a modern audience yearning for a more ambitious take on biblical storytelling.”

Directed by Danny Green (“Troubled Waters”) and Obba Babatunde (“Miss Evers’ Boys,” “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”) from a screenplay by Lennix and Carter the production features indelible performances from a litany of superstars including double Grammy nominee Mali Music (Best Urban Contemporary Album / Best Gospel) as Jesus, legendary 10 time Grammy winner Chaka Khan, Grammy winner Michelle Williams, Victoria Tilford (“Star Crossed”), Siedah Garrett (Grammy winner, “Dreamgirls,” Oscar nominee) Wendy Raquel Robinson (“The Game”), T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh (“Let’s Stay Together,” “Jackie Brown”), Niki J. Crawford (“He’s Just Not That Into You”), Dawnn Lewis (“Major Crimes,” “A Different World”), Paula Newsome (“Barry,” “Little Miss Sunshine”), and Chester Gregory (“An Evening with Jackie Wilson,” “Motown”).
