Habitat for Humanity receives $10,000 grant from TC Energy Foundation

Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana announced it received a $10,000 grant from the TC Energy Foundation. The funds will support the stabilization of a Habitat partner family and their community in Lake County.

The agency is stabilizing a neighborhood and a family through home ownership.

Statistics show home ownership provides an improved opportunity for the families, children do better in school and graduate, healthcare improves for the family, and there is stabilization of local employment as families can own and maintain transportation to and from jobs. As well, there is greater involvement with the community, church, and other organizations.

These improvements enhance the community’s quality of place, bringing in others from outside the community to spend their time and money.

Additional support for the mission comes from community partners like Suncrest Christian Church, Lake County Economic Development Corp., Faith Church and others.

“Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana is truly blessed to have such amazing partnerships focusing on affordable housing in Lake County, IN. TC Energy Foundation funding allows us to pour another foundation for a Habitat home!” said Dawn Michaels, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of NW Indiana.

Michaels went on to say, “Our unique model removes families from high rental costs and sells them an energy efficient, affordable home. The difference between the former rent payment and their new mortgage payment provides disposable income to this family, which is reinvested back into their community for such items as food, child care, medicine, etc.”

The TC Energy Foundation provides valuable tools and resources to first responders, helps fund educational programs, supports important community needs, and strengthens environmental stewardship and sustainability through local and regional investments. Giving back to the communities where TC Energy operates always has been and always will be part of everyday culture. It’s all part of being an employer of choice, a good neighbor and a trusted community partner.

The TC Energy Foundation awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process.
