Governor Holcomb and Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King congratulate Hall Foundation

The Katie Hall Educational Foundation, Inc. is in receipt of congratulatory letters on the occasion of the permanent installation and unveiling of the “U.S. Representative Katie Hall and Passage of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday Law Signing” Historic Marker from two very distinguished Americans.Katie Hall Foundation Congratulatory letter 20194The State of Indiana’s 51st Governor, The Honorable Eric J. Holcomb stated in his congratulatory letter, “this event provides an opportunity to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as the efforts of Congresswoman Hall.” Governor Holcomb went on to remark, “Congresswoman Hall authored and sponsored the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Law, which designated the third Monday in January as a day to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”

Reverend Dr. Bernice A. King of Atlanta, Georgia, speaking on behalf of The King Center’s Board of Trustees as its CEO, commented on this unique moment in Indiana state history. Dr. King’s words included the fact, “U.S. Representative Katie Hall changed the course of American history by securing the passage of federal legislation to honor the outstanding contributions of my father, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to American democracy, in the form of a national holiday.”

The “Katie Hall and Dr. MLK, Jr.” Historic Marker will be dedicated by Casey Elizabeth Pfeiffer, Executive Director, Indiana Historic Bureau on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the 7th Annual Katie Hall Public Service Awards Luncheon to be held at the Genesis Convention Center, in Downtown Gary. VIP Reception will begin at 11 a.m. and the luncheon will begin at 12 p.m. Admission is $55.00 per person.

The 2019 luncheon honorees include: Editor and Publisher Dorothy R. Leavell, The Crusader News Group (Chicago, IL); Steve Sanders, anchor, WGN-TV, Channel 9 (Chicago, IL); and Naomi Millender (posthumous), past president and cultural historian, Gary Historical and Cultural Society, Inc. (Gary, Indiana).
