Gary to hire part-time cleanup crew to assist general services employees

As part of the City of Gary’s community restoration initiative, the city will hire eight (8) part-time (P-T) seasonal employees to assist the General Services Department in the cleanup of residential properties in the city.

The new P-T cleanup crew will help with the general cleanup of vacant and abandoned properties.  The crew will also maintain vacant lots and other public property.

The city will use casino revenue appropriated by the Gary Common Council to support this initiative.  Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson thanked the Council for providing extra support for the General Services team in their effort to mirror the efforts of residents who maintain their property. “Every day residents of our community maintain their property and vacant properties in their neighborhood.  They deserve our help.”  Council President Ron Brewer suggested the idea of a second crew and the members of the Council unanimously agreed.

Gary residents interested in applying for one of the positions must immediately contact Human Resources located at Gary City Hall, 401 Broadway; 219-881-1346.

The eight P-T employees will work 30 hours per week from Monday, July 9, 2018 to Monday, October 1, 2018.
