Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson will partner again this year with the UNCF Northwest Indiana Leadership Council to host the annual Mayor’s Breakfast benefitting the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). The program will feature special guest, Mayor of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; the Honorable Shirley Washington as keynote speaker. A former Educator, Mayor Shirley Washington assumed office on January 17, 2017.
Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson stated, “I look forward to this event each year that showcases our community support of the UNCF; as well, our efforts to improve the educational outcomes of the students of Gary, Indiana. I am also looking forward to welcoming Mayor Shirley Washington to Gary who will join us as our special guest speaker. She is beginning her second year as the first African-American woman Mayor in Pine Bluff. Her accomplishment made the history books.”
The 2018 Breakfast on Thursday, February 1, 2018 will be held at the Genesis Convention Center, One Genesis Center Plaza beginning at 8:30 a.m. where more than 300 businesses, civic and education and community leaders will support the UNCF event. Proceeds from the breakfast will assist to provide scholarships for Northwest Indiana students.
