Gary joins other cities in National Night Out – Aug. 1

The City of Gary and the city’s Public Safety Division will join hundreds of cities across the nation in the observance of the annual National Night Out held on the first Tuesday each year in August.

The City’s National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the newly improved James Reed Park located at 14th and Pennsylvania Street.

National Night Out is “America’s night out against crime” and is designed to promote safety in the community and to send an anti-violence message to those that commit crime. The event is further an opportunity for the community and public safety personnel to come together to establish relationships and to build alliances against crime in neighborhoods.

The National Night Out event will include giveaways, games, kid fun, music, food, health and fitness demos, informational vendors, safety tips, K-9 demos, equipment displays and much more.

The entire community is invited to share in this national, Gary observance in the city. Community organizations, the faith community, clubs, businesses and others are welcome to distribute information at the event through a request to be a vendor.

Vendor applications are available at www.gary.in.us or at City Hall, 401 Broadway. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

For more information, or to participate, call 219-881-1314, or contact Lieutenant Dawn Westerfield at 219-881-1214.
