Gary is Cleaning Up and Cleaning Out

The city of Gary will continue its 5x5x5 Community Clean ups with the last one of the year in the city’s first district. City departments will be “Cleaning Up and Cleaning Out” on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services and Councilwoman Rebecca Wyatt announces the cleanup that will target Clay Street to Hamilton Street from 10th to 15th Avenues.

Volunteers are needed and are encouraged to bring their own rakes, shovels, brooms, gloves, garbage bags, etc. Participants are asked to meet at Miracle Temple COGIC, 4709 E. 13th Avenue for assignments.

Residents in the First District are also encouraged to join City departments in the clean-up effort by cutting grass and by working together in their neighborhoods to spruce up their blocks. Participating City of Gary departments include General Services, Parks, Demolition, Code Enforcement, Police, Fire, Traffic, Recycling, Health and Building.
