Gary, Indiana joins other cities in annual National Night Out

The City of Gary and the city’s Public Safety Division will join hundreds of cities across the nation in the observance of the annual National Night Out held on the first Tuesday each year in August.

The City’s National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Froebel Park, located at 15th and Madison Street.

National Night Out is “America’s Night Out Against Crime” and is designed to promote safety in the community and to send an anti-violence message to those that commit crime.  The event is further an opportunity for the community and public safety personnel to come together to establish relationships and to build alliances against crime in neighborhoods.  The event will also promote Gary as an age friendly community and the nation’s “Let’s Move,” an initiative to raise healthier children.

The National Night Out event will feature an “age friendly” environment for Senior fun, giveaways, games, kid fun, music, food, health and fitness demos, informational vendors, safety tips, K-9 demos, equipment displays and much more.

The entire community is invited to share in this national observance in the city.  Community organizations, the faith community, clubs, businesses and others are all welcome to distribute information at the event by participating as a vendor.

Vendor applications are available at City Hall and via the city’s websites: www.gary.in.us or www.teamgaryindiana.com. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

For sponsorship and vendor information, call 219/881-1314 or contact Commander Sarita Titus, Gary Police Department at 219/881-1214.
