The City of Gary and the Gary Health Department will host a Senior Summit and Health Fair on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Genesis Convention Center, 1 Genesis Center Plaza. Free transportation will be provided from the city’s senior buildings.
The Health Fair will focus on resources and services available for Gary’s aging community and will offer attendees Free Health Screenings, Physical Fitness Tips, Lunch and Snacks. Doctors will also make presentations and will be on hand for medical questions and answers. Valuable information will be available from vendors, and chair aerobics, raffles and prizes will add to the day.
Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson stated, “We look forward to the Senior Health Fair each year. It is an important event and we encourage our older citizens and others to come out and take advantage of the free health services and opportunities to ask the participating doctors questions. We are focusing on our Seniors, but all are welcome.”
Bus transportation will be provided locally from senior high-rise buildings beginning at 9:00 a.m. The bus will make one return trip from the Genesis Center at the conclusion of the event. For more information or to request transportation, call the Mayor’s office at 219-881-1302.
The city of Gary acknowledged AARP Indiana for their support of the Senior event. AARP will discuss the city’s designation as an AARP “Age Friendly” City during the Health Fair.
