Former Rep. Bobby Rush encourages Chicagoans to cast their ballots for Mayor Lightfoot

“Lori is the only one, since Harold Washington, to confront the real problems in the Black community.” — Former U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush

On Friday, February 24, 2023, the Lightfoot for Chicago campaign released a video featuring former U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush that highlights Mayor Lightfoot’s historic accomplishments for Black Chicago and encourages voters to cast their ballots for the mayor in Tuesday’s election.

Rep. Rush emphasized to Chicagoans that Mayor Lightfoot “took the helm and led us to a safe shore over some really tumultuous waters.” The video spotlights how, despite the unprecedented challenges the city has faced in recent years, Mayor Lightfoot has consistently delivered real results for Chicagoans, from her steadfast leadership that got Chicago through the COVID-19 pandemic to historic neighborhood investments through her signature INVEST South/West initiative.

“Lori is the only one, since Harold Washington, to confront the real problems in the Black community,” said Rep. Rush. “Only Lori Lightfoot has demonstrated the capacity, the commitment, to bring resources to the African-American community.”

Rep. Rush is one of a number of current and former federal elected officials supporting Mayor Lightfoot’s campaign for re-election, including Senator Tammy Duckworth, Representative Danny Davis, Representative Robin Kelly, and Former Representative Marie Newman.

Full transcript of former U.S. Representative Rush’s video

My name is Bobby Rush. And I just retired as a member of Congress, where I served for almost 30 years.

I am supporting Mayor Lightfoot’s reelection because she’s done an extraordinary job. Mayor Lightfoot took the helm and led us to a safe shore over some really tumultuous waters.

I remember too well when the Black community became divided. We forgot how we had the first Black mayor elected. Lori is the only one, since Harold Washington, to confront the real problems in the Black community. Only Lori Lightfoot has demonstrated the capacity, the commitment, to bring resources to the African-American community.\

Lori is good for the City of Chicago. She’s good for the South and West Sides. She is the right one, has been the right one, and will continue to be the right one to lead our city to even higher and higher heights.

Make sure you vote between now and February 28th and reelect Lori Lightfoot as mayor of the great City of Chicago.
