The Gary community was treated to a host of delightful and fulfilling dishes during the Annual First AME Sons of Allen Taste held Saturday, June 3 at the Baber Youth Center.
Over 50 dishes were prepared by members of First AME and ranged from soulful red beans and rice, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, black-eyed pea salad, ribs and fish. The event has in the past featured numerous culinary contributions from church members Mamon Powers, Jr., who served up succulent barbeque ribs along with banana pudding made by member Daisy Pernell.
Following the taste event many of the participants journeyed to Chicago to enjoy the 32nd Annual Chicago Gospel Fest in Millennial Park.
