Endorsements announced as local races gain momentum

The Gary Precinct Organization recently held their endorsement meeting. The purpose of the meeting, that was held Saturday, March 31 to endorse candidates for the May 8 primary election. Among those seeking office the organization voted to support several incumbents and a few new candidates. Incumbents Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez, Lake Auditor John Petalas and Lake County Treasurer Peggy Katona were endorsed. Incumbent Calumet Township Assessor Jacquelyn Collins and Calumet Township Trustee Kimberly Robinson also received the organization’s support.

In the contest for the Calumet Township Board are incumbent Darren Washington, former board member Ron Matlock and political newcomer Jackie Holmes who all received endorsements. Lake County Commissioner Kyle Allen also was endorsed, along with Lake County Council candidates incumbent Elsie Franklin, 2nd District and Ronier Scott, 3rd District. Former Lake County Court Judge Lorenzo Arredondo is the choice in the Lake County Clerk’s race. State Rep. Earl Harris, Jr. was endorsed for State Rep. District 2 and Ragen Hatcher was endorsed for State Rep. for District 3. Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter and Lake County Assessor Jerome Prince, who are both running unopposed, were unanimously endorsed for re-election.
