Crusader Staff Report
EdisonLearning will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 12 at the Gary Area Career Center to discuss the future of Gary’s Roosevelt College and Career Academy.
The Career Center is located at 1800 E 35th Ave.
The Gary Crusader learned of the event from a phone call from an activist who was concerned that the newspaper and other media outlets were not informed of the meeting. There is also concern that many parents were not informed of the meeting.
News of the meeting comes less than one week after the Gary Crusader published a nearly 3,000-word investigation that showed how the state wasted more than $22 million on EdisonLearning in a failed turnaround at Roosevelt. While Roosevelt students continued to fail state tests and its historic building remained in disrepair, the state paid EdisonLearning nearly five million each year for efforts that produced little to no academic progress. With an extended contract, EdisonLearning has the potential to push its earnings to over $31 million for managing just under 500 students in a cash-strapped school district.
